  • Page size – A4 or US letter
  • Type size – 12pt minimum
  • Single column
  • Margins – at least 25mm (1inch) on all four sides.
  • Title – always start disclosure with a title. Leave two lines between the title and the first line of text.

  • End – finish the disclosure two lines below the last line of text (or diagram). End with ‘Disclosed by…your company name, inventor(s), etc’ or ‘Disclosed anonymously’. Text should be ranged left.
  • Fonts – where possible please use standard Windows fonts such as Arial and Times. Where special fonts are used these will need to be included in the Zip file or directory/folder you send. True Type and PostScript fonts are acceptable.
When creating your document, please try to avoid characters generated by the software you are using, these can fail to translate correctly to PDF. If you can, always type the symbol or character.
Should the software you are using to create your disclosure allow it, all fonts should be embedded when you create the PDF. The PDF should have a resolution of 600dpi.
Please supply any illustrations or diagrams as separate attachments. Once created, your PDF should be placed into a Zip archive along with any special fonts, regardless of whether they were embedded or not. Please note that when you are making the Zip file we do not accept .exe files, so please do not make it a self-extracting archive. If you do not have access to a Zip utility please enclose all items within a new, meaningfully named directory/folder for uploading to Research Disclosure.
